I was pleased that the lug wrench arrived early as I needed it for rotating my tires. The unit looked good coming out of its handy case but lacked instructions. When I used it, there was a coarse grinding sound, and I feared it might break before loosening the first lug nut. After generously oiling the unit, it worked somewhat better. On the third lug nut, positioning the unit more accurately for a straight-on operation proved to be the most effective, although there was still friction and grinding noise. It was challenging to turn even after the lug nut came loose. At this point, I was leaning toward giving the unit three stars.

Believing I could enhance its performance, I disassembled one side and found the three screws holding the cap to be very loose. Further inspection revealed poorly machined shafts' center bearing surface with no grease. I cleaned up the center bearing surface using an electric drill motor and a fine file, generously greased the unit, paying attention to the center bearing surface, and tightened the cap's screws properly. I repeated the process on the other side before returning to my car.

For the remaining wheels on my car, I positioned the tool directly in line with the lug nut and started turning counterclockwise. I was pleased by how smoothly and effortlessly the tool loosened the remaining lug nuts. The unit transformed from a three-star to a five-star rating with this simple finishing work that should have been done at the factory. If you are unable to perform this modification, it's advisable to leave the task of removing stuck lug nuts to garages with powerful impact tools instead of attempting it with these hand tools. Over the years, there have been instances where I or others needed a tool like this. Recently, we struggled to remove lug nuts from a large horse trailer, forcing the owner to drive slowly for 15 miles into town on a flat tire. This handy tool, in its convenient case, will now be with me in my car or truck for such emergencies.

Initially, it feels awkward to use – as if it might bind on the nut. However, this is more of a sensation than an actual issue. After a few uses, positioning it correctly on both wheel nuts becomes second nature, and it works effortlessly. It easily cracked the overtightened nuts on my SUV. When re-tightening, caution is needed as it can easily over-tighten. It's advisable to disassemble the unit and re-grease the gears, as there's minimal grease applied from the factory.
