Stark USA Portable Spot Welder 1/8" Welding Tip Gun Single Phase Tip Gun 110V

This is an ongoing review that will be updated as I continue to learn about the ins and outs of this device. I ordered the 240v version, and it appears to be constructed from sturdy, high-quality materials for the most part.

The initial issue I encountered was resolved with some adjustments. The manual instructed to "align the tongs" before operating, and to achieve alignment, it mentioned loosening the four bolts (two clusters of 4 bolts each, one on the top and one on the bottom). It's worth noting that our bolts were slightly different lengths, so careful attention during reassembly is essential. The manual also provided a detailed diagram on a separate page, indicating which parts can separate.

However, when attempting to separate the tongs from the unit as instructed, I faced a challenge. Despite carefully removing the top 4 bolts and the protective yellow backsplash panel, the top tong remained attached to the beefy wire weave and metal casing. It turned out that a thin sleeve was wedging the tong in place, effectively immobilizing it. This sleeve was not mentioned in the manual's text or depicted in the diagrams, as far as I could tell. So, if your tongs do not easily adjust by simply loosening the bolts, this issue with the thin sleeve might be the cause.

I purchased this at a discounted price due to package damage and a bent brass welding arm. Fortunately, I was able to fix it, and it works well on auto sheet metal.

I purchased the 18-inch tongs of the Miller type for it, and the performance is excellent. It delivers a clean and precise weld for 20-gauge sheet metal.
